Chocolate Love A'fair

Yep, that was the name of today's event! And the one word I can think of that fits...sinful!

Be warned - I am not liable for any keyboard drooling incidents. :)

I have had the cookie on left middle of this picture. It was a nicely bodied chocolate cookie with a creamy cherry covered in dark chocolate topping. The little item on the other half of the box was a s'more like thing and I wasn't a fan. And the item in the cup was an all natural chocolate pudding. It did not taste like commercial pudding.

The ice cream in this picture was called "Killer" and it was! The chocolate sauce with the brownie was somewhat sour and was a wonderful accompaniment to the brownie.

And this is 3 of 6 plates on our table. I bet there were 1 million calories between all the boxes. I will be freezing most of mine later. There is no way any one person should have this much sweet stuff in a few days let along in one.

As we were going through the line an auction of more foods/desserts began. I kept my head and hands down. What I needed - more food. My diet took a severe hit today and hasn't been doing too well anyway!

Today the weather man was off. The snow/rain line was to be at least 40 miles north of us and we were to have all rain all day. Oops - we got nearly 2" of snow that started melting immediately after it stopped snowing.

My stitching has suffered greatly this week. I started the family genealogy. Oh good golly - I have nearly 700 people in already and back to the 1700's. Thank goodness the Schupp, Furbay, Long, and Van Norman's all had someone put their branches together. Now, I must find the Brosius, Mathews, Steed, and John families.

Well, these genealogy papers are calling my name. I need to get busy on them. And then after I get all the records in the program - I get to add pictures. Again - oh good golly!

So, I'm off to add another 50 people to my ever growing tree!

One Nation...Showing Progress!

I planned to post this yesterday but my insomnia kicked my butt and I just couldn't. Three hours of sleep leave a lot to be desired. Then last night - got to bed at a great time only to wake three hours later and stay up another three before returning to bed! But, at least I got more sleep!

This sleeplessness does have benefits!

The lighting on this is just terrible (my apologies) but I tried several spots and the color just wasn't showing. btw - that is the sun shining on the lower right of the picture! Yes, the sun is out and the temps are to be in the mid 50's today (11C)!

The stitching may have to wait on doing a few things outside - we have pampas grass that needs trimmed for spring and today would be the perfect day to do it! (No one tell Jayne I may put something before stitching!)

My family and I are planning to go to a wonderful event this Saturday! The local hospital is having a chocolate fest where we get to try at least 20 chocolate desserts, help pick the people's choice, and attend a foody auction. I think my camera my have to go along - one thing though - no suing me if you drool on your keyboard!

Courtney and her friend are coming over in an hour and I still sit in my sweats. Must keep this short if I am to be presentable - read clothed and hair brushed! I'm off to start my day!

Think spring may be just around the corner and I can't wipe the silly grin from my face!

Needle in Hand This Weekend!

Thanks to Rob having some type of nastiness this weekend I had lots of stitching time. The poor guy was on the couch freezing when he wasn't trying to see the inside of his stomach. He doesn't get sick often but when he does - it's BAD. Since he had the living room - I took to the stitching room. (Logan stayed in his room or the basement.) At least 16 hours of stitching in two days and Sunday was a bonus with another 4 or 5.

By the time I finished page 4 and got a start on page 5, my orange tolerance had flown the coop. The thought of picking up DMC 918, 919, 920, 921 just made me gringe!

So what was I to do but pick up One Nation. I looked at all of my other possible projects and just didn't have it in me to work on Santa Claus x5 or birds or snowmen/snowflakes. This project list for 2012 might have hit its first major bump.

Sorry about the lighting - we are having rain again. The white on this just isn't showing. I managed to finish 2 stripes and one state.

There won't be too much stitching today :( Errands call - paying property taxes (what fun), fighting with the cell phone company (even better), getting groceries (shoot me now), and then Jo-Ann's!!

Floss for 272 Words - I have the pattern and fabric so this will be small beans compared to them. I need something like 18 skeins of floss. Had considered using the hand-dyes but at $2.25 - it just isn't in my budget for now. And the project is all lettering so it won't make that much difference.

On a side note - today is the one year anniversary of Dad's death. If you could send a little prayer for Mom - I would appreciate it. She's been having a difficult time these last several days.

Hanging Out at Home

I finished three smalls the other day. Can't show you because - well, because I can't! lol After I finished them I went back to Colorful Sky. I now have page 3 completed. Page 4 (and a little of 5) are well under way.

Sorry about the picture - it's another cold deary day in Ohio and the only place for a photo with light was at my chair.

I got several hours in on it this weekend. We had no other pressing engagements and it was snowy/windy out. Better to stay in and stitch than venture forth into the winter ick.

Found a way to get all those stars finished. Take a few with me in when I ride my stationary bike. It takes about 5 minutes or so to fold each star. And your mind is occupied while you ride to nowhere. I'll probably regret saying this but in the last 2 weeks I have lost 7.8 pounds. Not bunches but better than gaining 7.8 pounds!

There's really nothing else new and exciting to report from my end. I'm fast becoming boring. Not working is turning me into a homebody. And with DH not working, I'm not spending on my obsessions.

Maybe by next post I'll have something fun to tell you all about!

This Is Turning Into A Craft Blog...

cause there sure hasn't been any stitching happen'!

I finished copying my photos! They are mounted and cropped. Now onto my mom's two large green totes. I saw them today -- not going to be an easy task.

The picture shown here in the front is the oldest one. It shows my husband's grandfather as a newborn and his great-grandfather circa 1900. The little girl in the photo on the left - me at about 4. My shirt says something about being a little stinker. The other 3 pics showing - l to r - me holding Logan at his first Christmas, the kids with us this Christmas and the four of us at Courtney's high school graduation. In total 248 pictures for the tree to date.

This morning I woke up and decided to work on the German Paper Stars only I use ribbon. These are being made for the tree of 2014. Yes, I plan my trees out that far. The tree for 2013 will have my old Hallmark ornaments (Logan asked for this one). Anyway, here's a link for directions - go here.

I did get some sewing done -- on the machine. I had mending climbing the wall - 2 pairs of pajama bottoms, a pillow case, and son-in-love's quilt. All finished and done. Promise tomorrow will find me stitching!

Copy, Adhere, Crop, Label, Punch Hole and Repeat!

Yep, that about sums up my last week. I'm working on my Christmas decorations for my next tree.

I've gone through my aunt's photos. I've gone through my albums and still have 4 to copy from (5 albums finished). I've copied photos from my MIL. AND still I have my Mom's totes of pictures to go. As of right now I have nearly 160 pictures copied and mounted!

Friday afternoon I sat down to pare my list of photos down. No more than 30 per album - harder than it sounds. And Rob walks in with a tote from his mother's. I stopped what I was doing and we attacked her tote. At 11 pm - after 8 straight hours of looking at photos and doing my thing. I was done with hers.

Saturday I worked 5 1/2 hours. I swear this has become my part-time job. Oh and the money invested in this little adventure! At least 6 ink cartridges and 500 sheets of 4x6 paper. The reason for so much paper - as I found pictures I liked but didn't want on the tree - I had to copy those too! And I printed nearly 100 pictures from this Christmas.

I have pulled a few stitches. Not many - only when I've been out of ink or paper. So today will find me once again in front of my printer pulling picture from albums!

Just talked to Rob and we are making pancakes and bacon for breakfast! Yummy - I haven't had bacon in ages.

Near Year and a Surprise Give Away!

While cruising the blogs this morning I came upon Maggee at Stitching Devotee. She had won a PIF give away. It inspired me to go back a few posts and pick someone who had commented.

Last night I learned to call ahead at our favorite restaurant. While on our way I made the phone call requesting seating only to hear the hostess tell me we would have a 4 1/2 HOUR wait! That would have been after 9pm for dinner. We took the chance they would let us in. The first pass through their parking found no spaces at all. We ran over to Best Buy and then tried the restaurant again - an opening! They let us in and we got a seat at the bar after a 10 minute wait. The food was wonderful and the service was outstanding. One thing about setting at the bar - quick refills. We were home by 8pm.

Our festive evening concluded by watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives until 11:45. Then we switched to Dick Clark and had a kiss at midnight. I was in bed at 12:08. Yep, a wild night - dinner and tv. lol

Hope everyone had a safe and joyous time last night. Here's to 2012 finding us all happy, healthy, and stitching!

A Moment to Breath!

Someone told me I seemed busier now that I have quit my job than when I was working. And they were right! I got it into my head that I needed to clean the master bedroom closet 3 days before Christmas - really? But, I whipped through it in one day and all was well. On Wednesday, I tackled my stitching room closet. It was stuffed to the gills and it needed help. Here are some pics of my poor room after the closet was unpacked.

And I've been shopping! And there is some stash from Santa. Would you like to see that too? The first picture are my supplies for my SAL with Jayne (@ Henley's Landing). We both fell in love with this snowflake and you know how that goes!

I got linen for 4 other projects too. Then there was a sale at my favorite stitching shop. Plus Santa. Looks like I don't need fabric anymore!

And before I go and forget, here's a picture of us Christmas Morning. Aren't we just a good looking bunch - lol.

My room isn't quiet back together. Logan got a filing box for me at Christmas. I just got the hanging files yesterday. If you look closely to picture #2 you'll see it under some framed stitching by the bookcase. I took all my patterns from the 3-ring binders and now have them in the files. Which caused me to rethink my 2012 to-do projects. Because I found a pile of patterns from fall that were never put away properly. My new list of kitted projects has grown. Not only that but now my cabinet filled with stitchy stuff needs to be organized again.

Somehow I think 2012 will be full of organizing and cleaning. The hall and front closets are looming over me and calling my name! Then there are the cabinets in the living room and the basement is in shambles again. Then the kitchen...oh, my poor kitchen. See, my list just grows and grows.

Well, I think I'm going to relocate and write up my last post for the year. Stitching goals from 2011 recap and 2012 plans. I might even get over to the Up for a Challenge blog and post my year end results. Might.

Guess What This Is...

And pretty Oak tree isn't the answer. lol Have you seen the commercial that shows people and their first sunrise after retiring? Well, this is mine. A rather cloudy day but this is Ohio in December. After somewhere around 8973 days (24+ years) of being an UPS employee - I am no longer. I quit. It started out as a retirement but I'm not old enough...so, I quit.

No idea of what I'm going to do. When I'll go back to work or if I will. Not sure how we'll make it without my paycheck. But, when your heart tells you it's time, it's time.

Losing a loved one especially one close to you is an emotional earthquake and you are never the same person you were before their death. And when Dad died in January, things started to change for me. I finally realized the saying "it can happen so quick" is true. You have to live your life as if today is your last day. Do those things that you've always wanted, tell people how you feel about them, and be happy with who you are.

Retiring from UPS is another step towards being where I want to be in my life. Cross your fingers for me and maybe send a prayer for my family. We may need them. Because for the first time in my life I didn't do what everyone expected me to. I wasn't 'Little Miss People Pleaser' and I did what I wanted.

Ok - this is really way more than anyone wants to know about me. But, maybe someday, I'll print this blog and I want it in here. How I felt on the first morning in my adult life not being an employee.

Switching gears -- I have been stitching on something. Not Red Birds though. Not sure what happened to my mojo on that one. I just moved on to this.

Nearing completion of page three. There are 18 pages and 81,200 full cross stitches in this one. It's one of my BAP that I hope to get done in 2012. Just checked and it is my largest Mystic Stitch I've attempted - Before Sunrise has 50,000, Winter Still has 62,000, and Grace has 45,600 full cross stitches!

Tonight is The Nutcracker! I've never been to see ballet and have no idea of the story line. Shh, I haven't ever seen Wizard of Oz either. And I've never eaten at a Taco Bell.

Tomorrow is Olgebay...busy weekend. The whole crew on a bus. Ha, I can see some wicked funny stories coming from this trip!

Last night the women of my dad's family got together. My one cousin's daughter and granddaughter were not able to make it. After meeting at my house and having sandwiches, we went to Roscoe Village for their candle lighting. A very memorable evening that I would like to repeat next year.

The candle lighting was inspiring. Although, the temperature could have been a few degrees warmer. :) I think last night's low was 17 (-8C). We got there and some had warmed cider while others went shopping. At last the ceremony started. Watching the flame travel from one to another and joining in singing Joy to the World was peaceful. Hearing all the voices rise up in song makes for goosebumps.

Caffeine Regrets!

To say I'm touchy about caffeine is an understatement. I had one can of Mt Dew last night at 7pm - I was still awake at 5am this morning. I went to bed at midnight and turned off the light at 1. Eyes open and mind spinning for 4 hours. The sun woke me at 8:45 -- this is going to be a LONG day.

Got plenty accomplished before going to bed though. My house looks gooood. lol Just a few things on the to-do list for today. Wonder if I should address those Christmas cards today - my handwriting may be wobbly.

Well that Dickens thing was not what I thought. If I had been a literary scholar, teacher, librarian or library staff, or student - it would have been more to my liking. He handed out 2 pages of terms and proceeded to define each. I thought it would be a reading of 'A Christmas Carol' and then the terms would be explained. By the halfway point of the first page - I started yawning.

I'm off to find breakfast - and then the shower - maybe that will wake me up. Must move or I will be velcroed to the sofa for the day.

Charles Dickens Calling!

I found something different to do this week. A local library will be having someone come in and read Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." It contains many Victorian terms that we no longer use today. In this presentation, historian Chris Hart defines not only these terms but also explores the many hidden meanings in this timeless Yuletide classic. So, I'm off to learn at the library!

This weekend I got to visit with a friend who I haven't seen since spring. It was nice to catch up - if only her family would have allowed it! Her oldest daughter, son, and husband all called her and the BF of her DD texted numerous times. Sigh! But, we managed to talk and have a good time.

Picked out Logan's senior pictures last Friday. Went well but found out they no longer post all the senior pics on their site. :( I hope this link works - go here to see my boy. We ended up loving this picture the most and I got an 11x14 of it.

Started making cookies again this morning. Got side tracked last week when I didn't have all the ingredients or any large freezer bags. If I get busy now I could put a second batch of dough in the fridge and bake the Hershey Kiss cookies tonight. That would leave the crimples and chocolate with white chips to do tomorrow. DH wants raisin cookies. Hmm, I've never made them, don't do cut out cookies, and detest raisins. But, he hasn't had any since his grandma died 10 years ago. Well, any using her recipe. Am I feeling nice - yes - but he's going to be here to help.

I was looking earlier at blogs and realized I haven't posted on Jayne's Up 4 a Challenge blog in ages. Just looked and I did complete 14 of the projects I had listed and did another 4 that I had listed I'd continue to do. But, managed to do tons of others this year. Although my RAK list never got beyond 4 done. Somewhere along the way, I lost my umph on that one! Oops.

I know it's early but I got to thinking about 2012. I think I would like to work on my large projects next year. Colorful Sky and Birch Forest both by Mystic Stitch (time to dig out those BAPs), One Nation, and maybe my lighthouse. I think next year would be a perfect time to work on these WIPs that have been patiently waiting on me to pick them back up.

Speaking of stitching - I started another project the other day. It's from A Stitcher's Journey - Come down to the Sea and stitch with me. Too lazy to go get the correct title. It's probably 3/4 the way done. It may well be my final finish for 2011. It would make me 52 finishes for the year. Hold on - I'm breaking my arm patting myself on the back!

I'm off to stitch I think - must get some chicken out of the freezer for dinner first. Then later cookies!

New Look!

I've never changed the look on my blog so easily! This time there were no adjustments to the columns, no changing the text colors or the link colors, and everything looked good the first try! Geez - must be my day! ;0)

Thanksgiving went well - everyone was here early and we didn't have to wait on the bird too long. Mom wasn't happy with her pies - not enough cinnamon in the pumpkin and not enough corn starch in the chocolate. My noodles had issues but I completely blame the lack of my pasta roller! No fires with the deep fryer and no planning for Black Friday shopping.

Yesterday, I went full bore into Christmas. Even the stockings are hung by the fireplace with care...if I had a fireplace. Just a few more things to wrap up and the decorating will be finished. Next up cookies!

We've even got most of our holiday plans settled...Olgebay Park, The Nutcracker, The Candle Lighting at Roscoe Village, and JE Reeves Museum. I've already gone to see the trees at Warther's. I think the weekend of Dec 3rd is my only weekend still open.

I'm quite excited about all of the events but the Candle Lighting is hopefully a new tradition. As it stands all of the females on my dad's side of the family are going -- mom, my sister, DD, my aunt, a cousin, her DD, my other cousin's wife and daughter and myself. I don't know that we have ever ALL gotten together and done something. This should be an event! The plan is to start here having sandwiches and head off to see the caroling and watch the tree lighting. But, what I most want to happen is to have a picture of us all in front of the tree before we leave!

Today is the last OSU game and we are up against Michigan. Can the Buckeye's pull off another miracle like Wisconsin? That remains to be seen. If we were to win I think the Bucs would be bowl eligible - the next question would be will the NCAA allow them to go?

Well, everyone it's a wrap -- time to go start some laundry. Ha - gotta tell this quick. The other day the boy went to get into the shower and saw there were no clean towels in the bathroom. He headed to the washer/dryer hoping to find some. He called upstairs that there were no clean towels. I knew there was a basket down there. Here someone had kicked the clean basket of towels over to the dirty cloths side of the laundry area and the boy had piled dirty towels on top of the clean. Oops. Both the boy and DH had to dry off with hand towels. I kinda got a giggle out of that one.

Just in the 'Nick' of Time!

Yesterday I spent all day finishing my ornaments. I stand in awe of those of you who have the creativity to do amazing finishes. I was lucky to stretch the piece flat and get it centered. And to cut two pieces of foam core the same size - I mean really - is it that hard?

Wish I had some progress on Red Birds to show you. I don't think I have stitched since my last post. It's not that I don't want to - I just don't seem to have the time. BUT, my Christmas shopping is winding up and now it is time to wrap. And the tree goes up next weekend. And there are 11 people coming for Thanksgiving. And, and, and ... you know the drill...we do this every year!

Tonight is Garin's 5th birthday party at the bowling alley. This kid loves to bowl! And he's pretty good. I might take my camera - the little one is acting up and the big one isn't leaving the house yet. You know how it is with new toys! lol

Tomorrow is mattress shopping! Oh please let there be one we can agree on - please, please, please! And last grocery shopping before the big event. ick.

I may not have been around but I'm still round. lol Ok, yeah, that was horrible!

My mailman has been busy lately what with my internet shopping for Christmas. Today I thought she was bringing yet another box for the holidays. I was wrong. Miss CalamityJr (Mary Jane) spoiled me again. She has this idea - if I have surgery I get a gift. Now, who am I to complain?? I love that she is such a thoughtful friend!

I must show you what she sent!

My very first Thanksgiving decoration! Hard to believe really. And the magazine and container too! The magazine has that cardinal piece that will look smashing beside my current project. But, there are two others in here that will be filling my winter stitching basket.

Gorgeous! I will be SO ready for next Christmas! (insert me going teeheehee behind my hand) That little container - she sent it empty thinking I might have buttons or bobs to fill it. Ha, I found these little ribbon reels and they fit perfectly. Now I don't have to search the bottom of my box for them!

I have made some progress on the cardinals...oops...Red Birds.

I got my new camera last Saturday. Still dealing with the learning curve. What needs to happen is that I sit down with the manual and camera and play.

Having a Moment...

My baby boy is taking another step away from Mom. And yes, I am feeling rather blue about it. Not blue boohoo but just realizing the moment is here. Today is senior picture day. He has no interest in this and is ONLY complying because I have insisted. And I have promised dinner out afterwards. Food motivates him. lol

He told me some wonderful news last night - he has been nominated for The Golden Key International Honour Society! Apparently he is in the top 15% of his college class! Can we all give him a big Woohoo!

Now for the ironic part of this - his high school refuses to accept him into the National Honor Society. He ranks #5 in his class, has been to the Honor Banquet 3 times (having a year round GPA of over 3.5 - he's in his senior year and this isn't awarded until May), been in sports, and has done a few community service events. I could make a few observations here but I think I'll pass.

On the stitching front -- I'm in sssssslllllllooooooowwwww motion. Finally realized why - I tend to stitch from the hours of 11-4. By that time I have showered, dressed, and done a few things to the house. Dinner is hours away and evening is for spending with DH. That's when I feel most comfortable stitching. But, DH's hours home are (wait for it) 11-4! His work hours are throwing my entire schedule off. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! lol

The weather is changing today and the wind is whistling outside. It sounds like winter. Brr! Not yet - I'm not ready! :(

The Chi of Shaolin

Logan works as stage crew for the Performing Arts Center. He watched them practice Friday night and said of the entire set of actors only 3 spoke English. He said it was interesting trying to get the carts in the proper place when communication was bare minimum. The kid worked all day Friday and Saturday with the sets and working on the lighting.

If I caught the entire story line - it was about the redemption of a thief. The main character stole an item from a home and was hurt. He was then taken on a long journey to someone who could heal him. At that point the the thief met honorable men who trained him in their beliefs. The thief attained an honorable position and was given a sword that he promptly had stolen from him. He then went on a quest to get it back. After acquiring the sword again he returned to the home he had stolen from and returned the item.

What I found amazing about this entire production - not a word was spoken. Oh, there were sounds -drums beating, sticks being slapped in the floors, and music. But the women bent themselves in ways that would cause me to go to a chiropractor for months/years. The human body doesn't normally move like that! Wow!

The physical strength in the actors - beyond belief. After the show I went out and had them sign my program. After performing for 90 minutes none for them were sweating or even breathing heavy. Shoot - I'd STILL be laying on the floor sweating profusely and gasping for breath.

It was an amazing performance and I'm very thankful my sister asked me to go. Thank you Keri!

I mentioned a craft show I planned to go to. DH had to work over and it caused a time change in his schedule. Which, of course, caused a time change in mine. I didn't get to go.

I have a poll on my sidebar - and I see there are some early shoppers like me. Once, many years ago, I had my shopping finished by Nov 14th. Ha, not going to make it this year! Not even close. I'm still researching my lists. That's where I'm headed next.

Nothing to report on the stitching front - between DH, the ball game, and the acrobats - I never saw a needle. Thank you all for your wonderful comments about my start. Had to laugh - I may have to call the red birds - red blue jays. Too funny!

I'm off to play Santa! Oh, and plan this huge meal in 18 days. Where did 2011 go? I swear we just had New Year's.

See I Have Been Stitching

Just not much! But, finally I have something to show you.

As you can see I did go with the Mocha fabric. I keep calling this Cardinals and I guess it's real name is Red Birds. Oops!

Felt I was starting to show some real progress but after looking at the picture - I have a long way to go.

Hard to believe the weekend is upon us. Actually have plans too! My sister won 4 tickets to the local Performing Arts Center - lucky her. Some acrobat show. That's tomorrow evening and going with Mom to a craft show in the afternoon.

Remember the Old Sears Catalog?

Bear with me - back in the '70s there was nothing better than Grandma getting the new Sears catalog! I would spend hours looking through the toys - ignore the clothes - and turning down page corners. JC Penney's catalog just wouldn't do.

Would you like to see the newest version of that catalog?

Those papers on the table - the kid's wish lists from Amazon. Since I just printed the whole list they are going through marking their number one thing and highlighting the major wants. Same principle different medium!

Keri came over to go through the Halloween costumes for the kids. Garin is a pumpkin again this year and Alivia got the skunk!

The kids were over the other day and I had to take a few pictures. Garin took his nap and I found if you point the camera at Alivia she curls her nose. So, I try taking a picture - after the camera goes off - she wrinkles the nose. Got a partial curl -

She's this close to walking. By Christmas she'll be into everything. Not that she's not now - but look out tree! Mom better brace the bottom with cement blocks!

Started my shopping recently. How is everyone else doing? Do you shop Black Friday? Start in December. Oh, this is going to be a poll!

Oops - I Can't Count

I had a blond moment. Went to add a picture to my Flickr account and it said I had 50 pictures in my 2011 set. Now how can that be? I have 50 finishes and one picture has two in it. Time to count. And... flickr was correct. I never wrote The Raven by La-d-da on my completion list.

Had surgery on my right hand yesterday morning. It's amazing how much easier this is to do the second time around. And not having the thumb involved is a blessing. Already able to do many things it took me a week to do last time! Woohoo - I'm done with this.

Until the iodine comes off I'm not stitching. Just not going to take the chance of staining anything. But, I have plans! ;0)

Wonderfully beautiful day in Ohio. The sun was out and the temps were near perfect. Does anyone have a way to duplicate today for several more weeks?

This, That, and the Other

Many of you have heard by now about the exotic animals released in Zanesville, Ohio. Well, that's about an hour from my house. I found these pics at abc.com and they made me cry. WARNING - before you go see these pictures they are graphic.

And I find myself in a quandary. I have never been an advocate for more government. And believe people should use common sense. But, after seeing the destruction to these amazing animals I wonder if there shouldn't be more laws in Ohio to prevent this from ever happening again. It's a shame they had to be killed and I trust Jack Hanna when he says nothing else could have been done. But, there are just no words when you look at the pictures.

Many of you commented to DD's dental issues. After her visit with the periodontist and hearing her choices - Courtney has decided to not have anything done at the moment. The tooth isn't bothering her and the doctor really doesn't have high hopes to fix it. Lots of money changing hands but no real solution.

Changing subjects here so fast someone might get whiplash!

I love my mailman. She brought me a package from Canada! What goodies I received.

Down to the sheepie -- starting it hopefully yet this morning. And then this afternoon I am taking DD to the periodontist.

((( The following description may make some weak at the knees. If you have a queasy stomach - you may want to pass reading the following paragraph))

Poor kid. She's had an odyssey with her left canine. First she got stuck with me and my genetic issue with that tooth not descending properly. Hers was stuck just beneath her left nostril and they had to cut into her gums on both the front and roof of her mouth to attach wires and pull it down. The orthodontist pulled and thought it would relapse back into the gum at the proper height. She was one of three in his whole practice that it didn't do as it should. It's been loose from the day it erupted from her gum. As of today we are about 5 years into this. Hopefully, the periodontist will be able to tell us a plan of action to stop her tooth from falling out. Otherwise, she's looking at a root canal, bridge, or implant. None of which sound like a good time.

You can start reading again .... Did anyone else get 2.5" of rain yesterday?? Thank goodness it wasn't cold enough for that four letter word. We would have ended up with over 20" of it. Eek! This fall has been so wet. The color has been sucked from the trees.

Times a wasting - need to have breakfast and shower. DD will be here before I know it and I won't be ready. Opps!

Oh, speaking of which - I'm at a loss. I get replies to my comments on other blogs all the time and they show what I said and the the blogger is able to write me an email above the comment. When ever I want to do that I go through this small **ll to do so. I have to click their icon, go to their email, copy it, open a new email, paste their address in, then go back and copy their comment, paste it into the email, and then write. There has to be an easier way! Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong!! Please!

Maybe if I learnt how to reply to comments like a big girl I would do it! Yeah, don't get your hopes up, but I might!

These Crappy Pics Are Not My Fault!

My camera has gotten a mind of its own lately! Sometimes it won't show anything on the screen, constantly tells me the card needs re-formatted (it doesn't), won't turn on auto-focus, shuts off when it wants, and occasionally doesn't store the picture to the card! Good Grief. Maybe it's heard me talking that I would love that Nikon D3100 Ashton Kutcher was advertising a while back.

Sure, it makes a liar of me. On the camera and the laptop this was blurry. Here -- for some unknown reason -- looks good. I swear to Pete!

This is finish 48 for the year! I have two more ornies to go. One has a FAT sheep and the other has a LARGE tree. That would be why they are last -- big full stitched areas. Maybe the picture is deceiving and they aren't that full o'stitches.

Northwind SAL Week 9 and Other Things!

Then like a sledge hammer the other night - BAM! What an idea - knowing which floss I need at my fingertips without searching.

Apple Butter Stirring!

Yes, that is what I did today! I went to Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio. A very nice street fair - with old fashioned dress.

I was one of the lucky ones to get some fresh apple butter straight from the copper pot. I'd never had this before today and it tastes like applesauce on bread.

These are funky fedoras. That's them on the table beside Mom. You can open either end and make them into a hat or leave them in their natural shape and use them as vases. The fedoras are made from recycled wood fiber and then glued in to a cone shape. When used as a hat - they are light and vented. This is Mom at the beginning of our little day trip - and she ended up getting one on the way out! Go Mom!

Some other sights ~

Carving out a wooden spoon - the gentleman had just stepped out of the shot.

One of the things Coshocton and Roscoe are known for is the Ohio-Erie Canal. Roscoe was a canal town way back when. Here's a snap of the canal.

Mom got some fresh honey, the fedora, and 2 pints of Caramel Apple Jam. The jam is OUT OF THIS WORLD! And I got...

Two pints of apple butter, 3 beer bread mixes ( I buy the mix and Mom buys the beer or vise verse), a black walnut bowl, and 4 candy cane tree ornaments.

In my mind - no stitching but still a wonderful day.

Watching the second half of the Ohio State vs Illinois game and waiting for the bread to come out of the oven. The bread is almost done -- I can smell it. This is one time to wish for smell-o-vision!

I Need Your Opinions!

The mailman delivered today. And I am at a loss - which linen should I use???

Let me show you the picture and then I'll explain!

You remember me falling in love last week. I went and got the floss and hurried home to order the linen. I got a Country Mocha Cashel. But, between these shopping trips I emailed Mary Jane and asked her opinion. She thought about it and mentioned a light green. I had PTP Valor sitting here at home. So, we have been anxiously awaiting the mailman. And the floss toss was today. I just sent her an email showing the possibilities and thought you guys might like to join in the on the discussion. So, which would you use??? Mom and DD said Valor - DH likes the Mocha.

Also, in my package of goodies - the linen for the four Santas and a pattern.

Northwind SAL Week 8

As you can see there are just the two of us so far. Angela was away for the weekend and Rose has been super busy again this week. When I get their updates I'll edit the post and add them in.

Shari made great strides and has plans to finish hers this week. Mine is close to being done too - just a few snowflakes to go. (Honestly - it's done now) I just couldn't show more than 2 days worth of stitching without cheating. This SAL took a bit longer than expected but has been great fun. I got to meet another wonderful stitching sister and got to know two others much better. I am thankful to have been stitching with such great women!

**Edited** - Angela came out of her coma (her words not mine) and sent off her weekly picture. She's had a long weekend away and needed some recovery time. Visiting with friends and family will do that to a person! lol She doesn't believe that she'll finish in week 9 but has high hopes to get it done by week 10!

What is a person supposed to do when the medical staff says, "Ok, go have lunch and come back in 3 hours." Go home? Nah, shopping - of course!

Let's back up - I got the newest JCS magazine yesterday. Normally, I like a couple of pattern. Rarely do they scream I must be stitched NOW! This month - not 1 or 2 but 5 demanded attention. I'm weak and let them talk dirty to me.

Knowing I had the bone scan today and that I would have time to kill. I picked up the floss required for those patterns and some fabric.

Now, to find the right linen. Time to shop again - oh the life I lead. lol

Northwind SAL Week 7...

I'm still having a hard time wrapping my brain around that 7 week part. Time to move on I guess!

Got my stitches out last Friday. Now the rehab. Today I started squeezing a ball. Kinda a ball...no it's a cat toy. Let's back up - I needed one of those sand filled balloon things. I thought, eh, maybe a rolled up sock. DH finds a cat toy on our buffet (not sure why it was in the buffet but I removed it) and he hands it to me. Perfect size, right thickness, soft, and squeezable. Cat toy squeezing commenced. At least there is no squeaker in it!

Moving on to Northwind.

Here's Angela's progress - as she nears the end of lettering - she has set her sights on finishing those snowflakes before hitting the barn!

Shari got her barn done! She's heading to the fields.

And I got to treat stitching as therapy and I cooked this week. But, I did not get all my goals of last week completed - didn't finish the barn doors and those snowflakes.

This week's goals - finish the fence, grass, and either the bird or snowflakes. Saving the snow on the fence and barn door til last.

***Edited to add - Rose didn't get to stitch at all this week and has a bunch of family related things coming up in the next month. So, she's taking some time off to deal with life beyond stitching. ***

Well, I'm off to make dinner and then DWTS! Looking forward to tonight's episode. And speaking of the tv - has anyone else gotten hooked on Property Brothers? HGTV has been doing a marathon of this show and I like it! lol

Now Don't Get Me Wrong...

Now Jayne, don't get me wrong. I still love crows/blackbirds/ravens. And I am more than willing to have more of them - I just don't feel like stitching any more at this time. So, as soon as that bird feels like flying - you send him to the States and I'll treat him well.

And a question about my header picture - no, that is not my river - oh how lucky could I be. That picture was taken last 4th of July at Salt Fork State Park in Ohio. We rented a cabin and I got lucky with a great pic!

Just got back from PT - not a great session - when you go in without a limp and come out with one... well, you know.

Gotta go do something about the pain -

Something I Noticed...

My flock of birds must be complete. I have a blackbird piece that sits in the WIP pile and I have no desire to finish it. I just found Victorian Sampler came out with Button Up Birdies 6 and put it on the old wishlist. But, I only want it because I have the other five! And there are new crow pieces out on the internet that I have gone - "Ho-hum" to. Even the last bird on Northwind doesn't make me smile. So, no more stitching birds!

Wonder what my next obsession will be? Any ideas??

Northwind SAL Week 6!

Could someone please explain how we have been stitching this piece for

six weeks?

It seems like I started it yesterday!

There is no way that many weeks have passed!

I can stitch again not long but,

I've got a needle in my hand.

And this is all thanks to my sister who is soon to be an RN.

Two more classes!

I was having fits with all the bandages

they had left on me.

My hand was itching like mad and I couldn't handle another week in

those same stinky old wraps.

Keri to the rescue!

I called and she came over as I unwrapped it -

she saw what I had and went for new stuff.

She came back and cleaned up the uck and

gave me two band-aids.

I now can make my index finger and thumb touch.

Not serious amounts of stitching but progress!

Onward to our progress for the week ~

Angela has found her wings and flew this week! More than half done - way to go!

My poor Rose - had another busy week and didn't get to stitch much. Her mojo has wondered off somewhere and hopefully, the cool weather will bring it back.

Now Shari, of the holy smokes it's fall, was busy also. She made bread, pie, caramel corn, and ice cream along with her normal meals this week. I say let's all go visit - don't forget your fork and spoon!

And that brings up my progress - get the magnifying glass! Look closely to the left side of the barn and see a bit more grass - that's all I got done folks.

This week I would like to finish up the snowflakes, finish the lettering, add the weather vane, finish up those barn doors, and work on some grass. The hand will tell me later if I made too big of a list.

I'm off to call the eye doctor and see if the boy made it to his appointment.

Observations...

After being out of commission for nearly a week, I have had a few observations.

1 - Television is a joke! If the shows aren't 'educational' then they are 'reality'. And if they aren't home improvement then they are 'news'. Talking heads aren't anything but annoying and there are way too many infomercials!

2 - Radio is not an improvement over television.

3 - Reading is great BUT you still become easily bored.

4 - Computer games, sudoku, and other 'games' to keep your mind from freezing up only work for so long.

5 - Stitching takes up a lot of my down time.

6 - You must watch sitting for too long as the scale starts creeping up on you.

7 - Being stuck at home and looking at the same four walls makes you twitchy.

8 - SAHMs are saints.

9 - Not being able to wash your hair correctly and styling (using that term loosely anyway) makes you feel less like yourself.

10 - Bandages stink after a few days and your skin starts itching like mad.

11 - Having never been in a cast (and thinking for years how cool it would be to have one) I now know it sucks.

12 - My life is very small.

13 - The world economy is in dire straights.

14 - When the highlight of your day is the mailman coming - you need to get out of the house.

15 - Making tacos for dinner and only eating with one hand does not make sense.

16 - Sweats are too easy to get used to and they do not let you know about what the scales are doing. But, you can go to the bathroom by yourself - and not feel like your 4 year nephew asking for someone to button your pants.

17 - Phone calls (even from telemarketers) excite you.

18 - I miss stitching more than I thought I would.

19 - You can not make pasta in a large pot without help.

20 - I have a short attention span!

21 - Getting old is hell.

22 - Retirement could be very boring.

23 - Tying your shoes is not easy with one hand.

24 - Being bored, having a debit card, and internet access can be dangerous (see number 14)

25 - Opening packages with one hand is still exciting.(also see number 14)

26 - Having friends is a blessing.

I did get one totally unexpected package this week. His name is Sam and he's come to show all my other crows how to fly!

The Day After...and SAL Update

Some have told they played hockey the same night as their surgery ( my doctor) and several others were good to go the next day. Not me - Just getting letters capitalized is an accomplishment. Haven't tried the shower yet - be glad this isn't smell-o-vision.

Here's how the doctor left me for the next 10 days. No stitching going to happen as my thumb and index finger do not touch.

I'm going to just caption these and call it good. Sorry - no clever comments today.

I mentioned earlier that I planned to cook most of the day and do other chores. And I thought I would put out another post to let you know how successful I was today.

Ham Loaf - done
Spaghetti and Meatballs - done
taco meat made - done
hamburger and sausage for pizza - done
beef roast - done
coffee cake (not on original list) - done

Did not make either chicken dish - thought this was enough. Thank goodness I have an extra freezer.

Other chores -

Groceries - done by Rob
laundry - done
dishes - done by Rob and I
sweeping - done by Logan

And Rob made dinner for tonight - city chicken - macaroni and cheese. Plus, Logan got his laundry done too.

Bad Game Last Night and Random Things

And we had our tushes handed to us by the Canes! Somebody should have told the boys - "Men, we can not win a football game only hitting field goals. We need to catch some of these passes!" I gave up in the 3rd quarter - I knew how it was going to end. Some fan I am! lol

What to talk about...um, stitching. What has happened this week? Got the barn mostly finished on Northwind and putzed around with a LHN ornament.

Family...had Courtney's cake and ice cream yesterday. My sister and the kids were coughing and hacking - so they were kind enough to not come over. What we all need more coughing and hacking. Hmm, promised her some cake -- haven't done that and Courtney was supposed to take the rest to her house and she forgot. Eat the left overs or pass them on? Something to ponder today.

Work...don't work for several more weeks and am loving it! For the first time in ages I can say with complete honesty - I LOVE MY JOB! No sarcasm at all. (hehehe)

Home...Rob is off that crazy schedule and is back to being at home for a few more days. Logan is digging a ditch for a groundhog. Oh yeah, I've got to tell you about this story!

I live across the street from my parent's house. My kids and now my sister's kids all use the same bus stop we did. How very random and strange (small towns kill me). Anyway, Logan doesn't ride the school bus anymore. The driver, Tom, asked my sister what Logan was doing. When she said not much Tom asked her to have Logan call him. (real small town). Let me explain something else - Tom was MY bus driver from 1980 or so on. Sorry, off track again, so Logan called Tom. Tom needed a ditch dug around his shed. Seems the groundhogs are getting into the shed and around his motorcycle. So, he enlists Logan to dig the ditch which will then have metal and wood (not sure of the exact plans here) placed in the ditch to discourage the groundhogs from digging into the shed.

Now, I was thinking live traps, shotgun, poison or putting down concrete flooring. But a ditch? Seems Tom tried the live traps and there are several more groundhogs hanging around. You can't shoot anything in corporation limits. And the poison...don't think he tried that. Apparently, the digging of the ditch is cheaper than concrete. Needless to say, this has been an interesting week on the Logan front.

Today is GROCERY DAY. One piece of advice I've heard "never go into a grocery store hungry - you buy more." Well, let me expand on that - never make out the grocery list when hungry either. Yesterday morning before breakfast I decided to do the dreaded grocery list. Meal plans for next week - pork chops, spaghetti and meatballs, tacos, beef and noodles, italian baked chicken, red pepper chicken, ham loaf, and homemade pizza! Count that - 8 meals and 7 days!

And I want to pre-cook as much as possible today. You know - make the taco meat, make the spaghetti sauce, do the roast, grind the ham, cook the meats for the pizza. That way next week - pull it out of the fridge half made - toss in some other stuff and voila a meal!

Should I post again tonight and let you know how much I actually do? Because not only do I want to do this - I have laundry, house cleaning, and dishes on my plate too!

And why can I do all this when my back is killing me?? Because the doctor told me "You do not have enough arthritis, spinal degeneration, or any pinched spinal nerves to make you hurt the way so say you do. It must be a chemical thing causing the pain" In other words - my back pain is ALL in my head!!! Can you say a bunch of bad words with me?

But, tomorrow at 8:30am I will be at the hospital getting ready for the carpal tunnel surgery. Could you all say a little prayer asking for a quick surgery, steady hands (mine and the doc's), and little pain?? Hence all the cooking today!

Alright the men in my life have FINALLY risen and are looking at me funny. Like they think I might make them breakfast - everybody laugh with me hahahahahha!

Did anyone else know this? I was just on Amazon and happened to scroll to the bottom of their home page and saw fabric as a division of Amazon. I clicked the link and went to Fabric.com. They have Moda! And clearance pieces of fabric for $1.95!

Is it too early for Christmas ornies?

I seem to have my seasons mixed up. In August I stitched fall - Sept rolls around and I'm stitching Christmas stuff.

Maybe this being off work is screwing up my timing. I know I'm sleeping better - so maybe I'm getting out of whack from that.

Oh, would you like to see them? They aren't finished because I have yet to figure out how I want to do them. Sigh...it'll come to me sometime after Christmas.

I changed out the Avocado to Ruby Slippers. Simply because I didn't have any Avocado. I like my change. Sort of brightens the piece up.

Northwind SAL Week 4!

I knew it! Publish one post and a second is soon to follow! lolol

The ladies have been busy this week. Would you like to see what they been doing??

Angela has been hard at work. I had to smile -- if you read what she has stitched - The dot shall have snow. Dot? lol It reminded me of a pic Shari sent a few weeks ago. She had been stitching the word poor and hadn't gotten the leg in yet and it said poop.

Rose has had a busy week and doesn't feel she got much done. The way I figure it - each stitch done is progress. And she's keeping up with the snow flakes. You'll see in a minute I haven't done as well.

Shari has had those needles smoking again! She's down to the solid stitching. All the verse is fini! She likes stitching words. Can you tell?

And now mine. I ran out of lettering floss (not really but it wasn't sitting beside me when I ran out) and decided to hit the barn. The roof is on but those snow flakes need help.

That barn really didn't take all that long to do. Maybe by next week it'll have walls!

I'm off to put dinner away and watch some tv - take care and enjoy your evening!

It's Monday and things are moving a bit slow. Will post Northwind SAL progress a bit later. So I thought I would answer some questions you've asked. And since I am notorious for not responding to those questions you leave in the comments - I thought today would make a great time to do so.

First - I won a give away a few weeks ago and recently got my goodies! Susan at Afford Your Passions was so very kind as to share a wonderful magazine

Oh - to have a house on the beach...someday!

Paula asked about the big cookie. Yes, it was the size of a pizza pan and it was chocolate chip. And by now - mostly gone. Yummy!

The MRI results will be revealed Thursday morning. I'll let you know how that goes. ha...

The surgery for carpal tunnel is on my left hand --- many asked if I am left handed. In a word - YES! This should be interesting. I told myself I would practice being right handed. I'm a week away from surgery and have not yet even tried to do anything right handed!

I appreciate the many hugs you've all sent my way! Not nervous yet...too much to do! Now, Sunday night -- there will be no sleeping!

Oh, Jayne, don't watch that mailbox too closely - it might explode! Tractor boy might get frisky! I'll let you know if I need your help. Knowing I can count on you makes my day!

3:08 left in the game

and Toledo just took the ball away from Ohio State. It's been a see-saw today and tough game for OSU. Although, I must admit to cheering for Toledo a couple of times.

Had my MRI this morning. It was cancelled for Wednesday - rescheduled for Friday - cancelled for Friday and scheduled for this morning. Finally- the machine is working. Did have a small scare - the MRI thing (about half way thru) started making a weird honking noise. I thought for sure I would be stuck in this tube like a sausage in casing for the rest of my life.

Super busy next week - PT three times, taking DD to her dental appointment, and my back surgeon appointment. Not one day off. Sigh - soon some of it will stop!

Nothing much else happening here at home - DS took his ACT this morning and is having friends over tonight. Pizza, chips, soda, and a big cookie. Should be enough for 3 boys. Sorry - young men. (hiding behind my hand laughing at that thought - still boys to me). Logan just came upstairs and told me he rearranged an old toy above the heat duct to look down on them - really?

Stitching has been hit or miss - mostly just Northwind. Made some good progress there but elsewhere...

Toledo is almost in the red zone and called a timeout. Time to watch the remaining 65 seconds.

Northwind SAL Week 3!

Ok - no posts in a week and two today.

Something froze over!

(well, the temps did fall by nearly 30 degrees since Saturday!)

I think I am going to show our results this week by alphabetical order. Seems I have already been doing that anyway.

That means Ms Angela is up first!

She thought her progress wasn't much - but I'm rather impressed! And look how fast she is catching up. Give her some cool weather and a chair on the porch --- look out. She'll be framing this baby before we know it.

Next up is Rose ~

(btw - I happened to catch E!'s ninetieth showing of Titanic today. Rose made it to a life boat! And Titanic sank like a rock. Wouldn't you think after that ship sank time after time the people would throw all the wooden stuff overboard and make a floating platform for those unable to get a lifeboat???) Sorry - got off track there!

Anyway - Rose got a great start to her lettering! And she is ready to fly along next week!

Shari, Shari, bo-berry is up next ~

Now you want to see a machine stitch - check this out! She has hit the bottom of the lettering. Holy Smokes - She has a few lines on top and she'll be putting the verse to rest!

And now --- me. I've managed to get 2 of the 3 birds in (like that's a shock) and the top half is fini! Thinking this next week will find me finished with the verse too. And then the BARN and GRASS. Almost solid stitching for the bottom quarter of this baby. Screech! Those are the brakes being applied and the wheels coming off.

Ok kids - since I've managed to post twice this week (umm, today) I'm off to create havoc somewhere!

Nothing much to say...

I haven't been around much lately. Feeling a bit blue I guess. My mojo has weakened. My baby turned 18 and DD is soon to be 21. (And don't think I haven't realized that is a major source of my blahs) Being home 24/7 is great but has it's pitfalls too. PT...it works and has its place but I'm looking forward to the 6 weeks being OVER!

On the stitching front - Northwind. And that's all. I was working on another blackbird piece and decided I wasn't loving the floss. So, I sat it to the side.

I've read a few blogs and find myself not commenting (sorry everyone - I know we all like comments). Mostly though, I just scroll through and look at the pictures. If one strikes me - then I open the post. It's not right and I hate this attitude I've found myself carrying around.

Basically, the reason I am posting this is to say "Yes, I'm alive and well." For a bit...surgery on my left hand is 2 weeks from today. I think that may be starting to grind in the back of my mind too.

Hopefully, I'll post our SAL results for the week. Waiting on some pics.

Northwind SAL Week 2

see what the girls got done this week!

Since Angela didn't get her stitching shown last week - I'm showing her progress first! She's not only caught up but doing very well! She is very happy with her choice of fabric now and it shows. I believe she said it is 18ct Sterling Aida.

Rose got that blasted cloud behind her! She is beyond happy to have it done and hopes the lettering will flow! I think she'll be surprised how much she'll have done next week.

Shari is the rock star this week! Holy smokes - if she keeps up at this rate - we'll all be watching her frame Northwind soon. lol She is kicking butt.

And brining up the rear - me! I got more accomplished than I thought I would. I had hoped to get three lines of verse in and got a bit more.

My plans for this week - finish the snowflakes and bird to the right of the cloud and make sure all the other snowflakes are finished in what I have done. And then zoom to the bottom! We'll see how that zoom part goes. lol

One thing I have learned about SAL's - the very best part is not the stitching. It's making new friends who share the love of fabric and floss as much as I do. I would like to say - Ladies, thank you for joining me in this adventure and for sharing your lives with me. Here's to new friends!

My Weekend...

Nothing much happening this weekend. Made the coffee cake Edgar had on his blog - needless to say mine didn't come out nearly as pretty as his did. To show the picture or not -- nah, maybe next time. It looked horrible but tasted divine. I, umm, under cooked it and then placed it on a plate not realizing how badly under cooked it was - then it went on a cookie sheet to bake some more - and then back to the plate. In all that back and forth - it fell to pieces. BUT, it still wasn't in the house for 24 hours!

Otherwise, we celebrated BIL's birthday today. Keri didn't want her picture taken and I got one anyway.

Never never make a horrible face!

Miss Alivia had not taken a nap all day. Rob got his hands on her and did raspberries on her head. And out she went. He loves babies and if we could have had a dozen - he wouldn't have minded one bit. Honestly, I think he's about ready to be a grandpa.

It's not even 6:30 and I'm ready to go to bed. Made lasagna for dinner and had the kids over. I swear it feels like Thanksgiving evening -- that stuff is sitting heavy!

Tomorrow is another week - and that means Northwind Monday! Can't wait to see how much we've accomplished this week!

Oops!

Pulled out Northwind this morning to see where I wanted to stitch this coming week. And in counting out snowflakes I stumbled upon this mistake!

See that top right curly-q? Now look at the pattern - it's not where it's supposed to be. Decision time - keep it or rip it. I, in all my laziness, decided it should be kept and I'd re-arrange the snowflakes around it AND also stitch the curly-q where it belongs.

Guess my cloud is blowing a bit more wind than the others. Ah, the joys of counting while on pain meds! lol

Oh, and I finished the Raven this morning. Do you see a pic? No. Why? Again with the lazy thing - camera in the dining room, stitching in its room, and I'm in the living room.

Northwind SAL - End of Week 1

It's Christmas Morning today. I got to see every one's accomplishments! Would you like to see what we did?

Shari (Shari's Sharings) made serious headway! I am very impressed with her progress. I hope her progress is as great this week - but - her baby boy moved out this week and she's feeling a bit down about it.

Rose (Christmas City Stitcher) got a good start. She has been busy this week - returned to work from a summer break. I was happy to see she was a 'top' starter like me. She didn't get quiet as much done as Shari and I but I know she'll catch up soon!

Angela (Indomitable Angela) wasn't so lucky. She bought the linen recommended and decided it wasn't her cup of tea. She ordered some 18ct Aida and had to wait. But, she did get to visit some family while waiting! lol Next week I know she'll have lots to show!

And me -- how I do? Not so bad! I didn't kick butt like I have been but I did make progress!

With this project - I think we'll all meet at the barn. It's heavily stitched and there is A LOT of barn to do. Can't wait to see what we will have done for next week!

Well, there's daylight a burning and I need to go get in that chair!

After a blazing 5 hours of sleep I got up this morning at 3 am. After stitching for a few hours and hitting a bump (old DMC lots vs new DMC lots) I decided to cook. By 7 am I had made Paprika Chicken and BBQ Hamburgers. Everything was out for Fennel Sausage Soup and Pumpkin Cookies. I paused and went back to stitching.

Time passed and DH went for groceries - I took a nap. Back up and raring to go - I launched in on the soup and cookies. Then to finishing...

Odds and Ends

Thank you every one for all the comments on my last two finishes. I'm not really that fast a stitcher - I've just have A LOT of time lately. Last night I slept for 3 hours and got up at 2:30 - all I could think of is you guys -- "and they think I never sleep as it is -- what would they say now?"

Waiting patiently for my sister to come get her children. I've come to the conclusion my DD can wait another 20 years to have kids and she's to NOT leave them with me. I'm pooped! Maybe it's the back, the meds, or the fact of the three hours mentioned above but "Come on Keri!"

Rob had Alivia in his lap and starting drinking chocolate milk. She wanted in on the action -

Started The Raven yesterday morning - and this is where my progress stopped this morning at 10 am.

I'm using PTP Fossil. It's lighter than the called for fabric but the colors are showing well. It only has three. The repeats went quickly.

Can't see the baby -- she's crawling after the dog.

Two More of These ____ Birds Done!

I like series. I love birds. I even love to look at these when sitting in my stitching chair. But, I MUST put these down. I have burnt out on them. My little fingers just won't do any more for awhile!

I have to share - even though I have completed several of these birds - I designed my own today - the birthday bird. CalamityJr thought there should have been 12 birds and not 11. Birthday was the only 'day' I could think of to play with. It was completely inspired by HIH and all credit goes to them for this one.

btw - ____ means stupid -- nothing bad. I just didn't want that to be the title of the post to say something derogatory of a designer when I am the one frustrated.

Got The Raven today. And I picked out the linen. Maybe yet tonight I will pull the floss together.

We have a Diagnosis!

I won't bore you with the details but finally - an answer to the pain! Heading for my first PT appointment in a couple of hours!

But ~~ this leaves me with some extra time on my hands. (Pardon me while I turn my head and SMILE) Thinking this may lead to some extra time in the stitching chair too.

What to do - what to do. I'm already in a twice a week SAL. And a have a couple more Long Legged Birds to go - and The Raven (see post below) should arrive this week some time - I might even have time for WIP work.

The long and short of this means - if you thought my needle was smoking before - Look out!

I'm off to look at my stash and make some plans for the next 2 1/2 weeks!

Hello everyone! I've been MIA this weekend. But, I used my time wisely. Between birthday parties for Mom and Alivia - I stitched!

My next small project is another Plum Pudding design. I'm guessing I found these complimentary charts on some site or at a shop. I can't remember. Sorry.

My hand doctor gave me some pretty good news - no matter how my hands feel - Keep Stitching! I will be having a small procedure done on my left thumb. Not a big deal. Now the other doc and I did not see eye to eye. That situation will fall into place next Wednesday.

Off to find birthday presents - Miss Alivia will be one on Saturday. How has a year passed so soon?

Next post will probably be the start of Northwind! Woohoo - hopefully Mr Mailman has visited Angela and brought her pattern and fabric. Everyone is ready to go and show off how 4 people can do the same thing so differently! ;0)

Stash and More Crows

Hello Everyone!

Raven is on my to do list. I have three smalls (all pumpkin/crows) up next. Hoping with fingers crossed to get them done before we start Northwind. But, there might be a slight change of plans. More on that later.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented on Raven. And also, I wanted to welcome my new followers. Somehow I'm up to 152!

As I was loading the picture I noticed I didn't add any buttons to it yet. I'll have to check the stash and see what works.

Yesterday DH asks if I would like to go on a ride. Ok...sure. We leave before noon and head north. We ended up taking the L-O-N-G route to Cleveland. Our lunch consisted of handmade ice cream some where along SR 250 before Applecreek. And we stopped at both stitching places! I was very good and bought a few things for myself. But, I started my Christmas shopping. I'm afraid there might be boos and hisses from the masses if I talk too loudly about that. ;0)

One free pattern, a button for Thanksgiving Day bird, 2 crow and 2 summery patterns. Not bad and I didn't break the bank.

Today has been filled with household chores and soon I'll be making spaghetti. Tomorrow it's back to work. Only for four days this week - I have Wednesday off for a doctor appt. Which brings me to why my stitching might have to be re-arranged. I have another appt with a hand surgeon to see exactly what is wrong there. Maybe nothing - maybe surgery. Haven't gone to med school so we'll see.

A question - I had to use a hoop to get the pine needles in correctly. When I ironed the fabric I got hoop shadows still showing. It looks like the hoop rubbed out some of the color in the fabric. Is this possible? And how do I make the shadows disappear?

Not sure what my next project will be. Maybe that other long legged bird or a couple of other small ones that are out and about.

The Weekend Ends...

Friday was DH's birthday and his cake was yesterday. He had a great time. He is quite enjoying his gift from me. A hand held weather station. Friday - I had to insist he take it off when entering the theater and grocery store. And again when getting into bed. Today is sits beside him at his elbow.

We went to see "Cowboys and Aliens." I'll say the lead man his a nice tush. Couldn't miss it as it was surrounded by chaps the whole movie. Not much to say about the movie - you have seen the trailers and can use your imagination. It's about aliens attacking in the old west. I went along to sit in the dark with my husband. I got serious brownie points.

Hopefully today will being some stitchy time.

Now mine - I changed from a fob to a pillow. And it is adorable next to the summer basket.

I had a few loops get out of control but only one that had to be stitched and beaded into submission. :0)

Maybe instead of this pattern being called Tiny Garden it should have been Too Cute!

And I was blessed with great stitchy friends in the last couple of weeks! I had asked Gracie how to make her marking pins. Not only did she send directions but tons of beads. Enough to set the mind to working and off to the store I went. But, did I grab a pic of mine - no. lol

And Faye decided to give away a little something the other day. She went back through her comment area and saw I had left a number of comments about her finishing skills. If you've never been over to her blog - take the time. Her finishes are AMAZING! Anyway, she decided to send me a pattern from iStitch.

I caught up with Teresa on our SAL. Pheew! Thought there for a minute I wouldn't have the chance.

The ribbon did intimidate me at first. Now, I'm thinking this ribbon idea might be a great way to finish my LHN ornies. You know the ones --- the ones I have been putting off for months because I couldn't decide what to do with them!

Enjoying another vacation. Not one thing to complain about. Oh, I need longer days. I did something yesterday on my to do list (no, not the passports yet) I met another blogger buddy. We had a great lunch in Amish country. She and her husband are in the area for a few days. Since she's out of town and not at home - I'll wait to say who it was.

Oh the places we could have shopped. But we were good - did I mention her husband was along. lol What I found amazing meeting them both - they are the perfect ying and yang for each other. This blogging thing still leaves my mind in wonder. I met complete strangers yesterday and knew them at the same time. Ironic, I say.

Since the boy just left for a movie date and the man is not home yet - I hear the chair calling my name. Who am I to refuse?

Update on MIL - I swear 2 doctors and 1 radiologist can not agree. First doc said no break, radiologist said break, and the ortho doc doesn't think there is a break. MRI cancelled and C-scan ordered. That is Friday. She is off the leg with a brace that goes from nearly the ankle to hip (it's a knee brace). She's around 5' tall and this brace is for a taller person. She has a walker coming. At some point I'll be able to tell you what exactly is wrong.

But...I didn't tell you about my sister. She came out onto her back porch and started down the steps last Thursday. The step gave way (no bracing under it whatsoever) and threw her down between the steps and the deck. She landed hard on her left ankle. The ER doc said no break - the sports med doc today told her he wants to see the x-rays because he's afraid there is a break. The heel bone and others are misaligned. After a full week she's still swollen and bruised. So, her update will be next week.

Ok everybody stay upright and vertical -- please!

Fob SAL and MIL

Umm, the doctor just called MIL. Seems the original doc didn't read the x-ray very well - the radiologist found a break in the tibula. She's going to the orthopedist tomorrow. But, she's feeling much better and getting around pretty well. Now, they say stay off the leg and stay down. Ugh!

btw - she says thank-you for all the well wishes!

What Not to Do!

Picture this...

A woman (my MIL) who is vertically challenged deciding to climb on a chair to take care of something above her washing machine. She grabs the chair beside the basement stairs. Upon looking at its condition, she decides not to step on the chair in the middle - it didn't look like it would hold her. So, she places the chair in front of the machine placing one foot on each side. Climbing on the chair she places her right leg up on the washer. What happens? The chair kicks out because her weight is no longer balanced and throws her forward and to her left.

I got the phone call at 4 am -- will you take me to the hospital after you get off work?
Me - Ah, yeah - do you want to go now?
MIL - No, I want to wait to call the doctor.
Me - Are you ok?
MIL - No, I can barely walk. Getting up or sitting down is unbearable. Going to the bathroom is nearly impossible.
Me - You want to wait?
MIL - Yes, come down after work.

And after 3 hours in the doctor's office -- no breaks but a MRI on Friday.

Please - do not climb on unsafe chairs or stools. You don't bounce at 68 like you did at 28!

I actually finished something off my *real* list from Jayne's challenge! I had started 4th of July Bird last June and it was 1/4 the way done.

The floss had this weird variegation in it and the right pumpkin got a pink spot. It has since been corrected but I was too lazy to get a new photo.

Yesterday I was feeling a bit victorious about the 4th of July bird - so I pulled out 4 more in this series to do. I already had the fabric cut for them and the frame is made - I just need to stitch and pop them in the frame as the season rolls round. But, I found this little one sitting in the box and thought it would make a quick stitch.

New SAL and Another Project

A few weeks ago I showed a little fob I had gotten in Cleveland. Teresa had the same one and offered to do SAL with me. We are working on the fob one day a week and posting on Fridays. Honestly, I think we both could have finished it in one sitting. Haven't seen her post yet - so not sure if I need to catch up or if I'm ahead. It's started and will be adorable. I'm thinking of making a second one already. lol

I know - I know - another crow! This is going to be a pillow. There will be a *bird-in-tree* tree in my future. But, think about it, my BOAF finish hanging on the wall beside a small tree filled with birds. I could leave it up year round. Don't know - just a thought.

Garin and I went to Winnie the Pooh today. Old school animation. What a joy! He was a good boy (got a bit fidgety when the sleepies arrived) and we had a wonderful time together. He's napping now.

Tomorrow is a BIG day for us. Rob, Courtney and Andrew, Logan and I are going to see Harry Potter. It is officially the end to our children's childhood. I'll never forget reading the first book when the kids were in 1st and 4th grade. At dinner one night I told them about the book. Logan thought Hogwart's was a real school and wanted d-e-t-a-i-l-s! A year later - they were both reading the books. We've gone to see most of the movies together. Don't laugh but I'm a bit saddened by the end of the franchise.

Time to go stitch a bit and then it might be computer shopping time.

I know I worried about the *mistake* I made with the crow. But, I think that little mistake turned out to be a blessing. The crow just seems so much more prominent. Then there was the issue of my ability to back/straight stitch.

The issue - back stitching causing the light to break (imo) funny and not show smoothly. But, if I straight stitch then the light is better but it doesn't lie correctly. So I couch. Maybe I need some lessons in timing. When to do which stitch.

The bottom birdhouse called for back stitching in 2 strands. imo, too thick and the light issues - but I straight stitched it and was unhappy. So, I frogged and tried again. Straight stitch in one strand with couching. Much better.

So happy MJ gave me this pattern. Now to have the hubster make a frame and hang this puppy up!

Closing in on another small finish. And then I think another crow pattern. It might be a Plum Street iirc. Oh, working on a SAL with Teresa. Tiny Garden Scissor Fob by Shepard's Bush. It's adorable. We will post our progress later this week.

Ice Cream Sandwich Cake

Teresa asked about the recipe. I thought maybe some one else might be interested.

You'll need ~

1 small container of Cool Whip thawed
1 jar hot fudge
1 - 3.4 oz pkg of instant choc pudding
8 oreos (not responsible for what you do with the others)
12 ice cream sandwiches

In medium bowl add 1/2 cup of hot fudge that has been warmed in microwave until warm and gooey. 1 Cup of Cool Whip, the pudding, and 8 oreos that have been crushed. Stir together for 2 minutes.

On small platter place 4 ice cream sandwiches laid side by side. Pour and spread half of the fudge mixture onto the sandwiches. Next layer of ice cream sandwiches and other half of fudge mixture. Finish with last 4 sandwiches and then top with remaining Cool Whip - icing the whole 'cake'.

It looks like a disaster but is honestly beyond yummy!

Dinner came out rather well - although I think I cooked the tomato sauce a bit hard and had it too thick. It didn't fill the pasta as well as it should have. Live and learn. It was a vertical lasagna - very tasty!

Problem Solved!

Ok, I'm not too sure about this new blogger - but it works so I'll just hush!

Birds of a Feather is coming right along and I think I've solved the itty-bitty problem I had. Let's say it's been adjusted! ;0)

I moved the crow up 5 stitches from where it should have been, brought the bird house down an extra 3, added another set of leaves to the flower, and got creative with his legs. He is a bigger bird than the other two anyway - so now he has stature. lol

Mentioned my 'notion of a rotation' the other day. The problem with it is --- I don't always get to stitch every day (shh, don't tell Jayne) and not stitching every day screws the whole thing up! And the thought of working on one project per week makes me weak at the knees. I don't know if I could put BOAF down for 3 weeks and work on my BAPs. Here was my overly organized idea ~

Monday - SAL
Tuesday - Portland Headlight Lighthouse
Wednesday - Colorful Sky
Thursday - Birch Forest
Friday - BOAF
Saturday - RAKs
Sunday - whatever

That isn't reasonable! All of the projects are now sitting at my feet awaiting their time. Oh, would you like to see what the heck I'm talking about?

Sheepy Siblings!

I'm not sure who my siblings are -- but I have 7 of them and our mommy is Bronny! She hasn't made a fabric fob for herself though! Check out the goodies I got from Australia!

She also sent some floss and two quilted coasters. Aren't they adorable? I think my fabric fob might be put on the handle of my stitching bag. But, at the same time it could be a cute little hanger off my one lamp. Decisions decisions!

Garin and I went out and about this afternoon - this little guy had to come home with me. It's sitting on a book shelf. If I put anything else on these shelves - they are going to explode!

And here's a little something I sent to Lee. I showed my daughter this picture and she got all upset with me. I was informed, "MOM, I don't even have a pin cushion!" And her first name starts with an L -- I think she thought it was going to be hers. Oops. Maybe for her birthday or Christmas.

Well the hubby just came in and I haven't started dinner. Grilled pork loin sandwiches. Every time I have this it reminds me of Miss Paula - thanks again for teaching me how to make this mouthwatering sandwich!

I Can't Count!!!!

Dag Nab It, Cussy cussy cussy, swear swear swear, stomping my feet, grump grump grump, scream!!!

Look what I did!

Do you see it? That crow is 14 stitches too HIGH!! No wonder I was off so badly on the borders! An inch too many stitches. I had stitched the the bottom of that section (the row under the word crow) and thought I needed to stitch the crow area again. And I never noticed until I started putting that bad boy in!!! UGH!

There is no way in **** I'm ripping this all out. The only thing I can think of is to take the crow himself out and put him at the bottom of his section as he should be and add another bird house above him.

DH just said I could add another branch under him and have the crow sit on that. I thought if I moved him down and maybe moved the branch down too... or make his legs a bit longer...

Ladies - is there anything you can suggest to remedy this MASSIVE mistake???

Guess it's time to pull out one of those new patterns I received and work on it a bit. Because otherwise, I will wake the household with my screaming!!!

Going back to my hole now. Stomp, stomp, stomp!

Guess who not only finished Dandy Dreams but got her fabric and tassels! Yes, tassels!

This will go off to her finisher and when its all done - hopefully, another pic! Love the tassel idea myself - the yellow compliments the yellow puffs perfectly. And this fabric gave MJ "the impression of a breeze blowing through grasses." Couldn't agree more. Way to go MJ!

Mr Postman was very good to me yesterday! Not one but two packages for moi.

I won Gracie's give away earlier this week. And boy was she G-E-N-E-R-O-U-S! Check out the pics! See the adorable bees on the cushion and fob? I think she is testing my skills in finishing - I've never attempted anything like this tasseled heart. And then the jelly, mints, pen, floss, and needles - Wow!

I just noticed my picture cut out the pins on the cushion. Shoot! I can't say enough about how much I love everything.

And a few weeks ago was my birthday - Cathey sent me a present. The Canadian postal strike delayed it a bit - but boy was the wait worth it.

A Shepard Bush's Long May She Wave Roll - These ladies have decided I must broaden my horizons with finishing! Can't wait to start this beauty either. Won't it look awesome in my summer basket?

I can see a possible WIP rotation in my future. But, the beautiful projects I will have to show for it make a rotation seem like a excellent idea!

Thought you might like a little update of BOAF. I haven't had any tush time in the stitchy chair in the last few days (Tuesday afternoon to be exact) But...

The flower with the bluebird is complete. The blue MJ sent me is stunning with this pattern. Can't wait to get to the other colors. Don't know how I missed getting this - but MJ - thanks again!

Otherwise nothing of note has been happening in my life. The boy is working now and the house is quiet. So, I've been cleaning. Today's victim --- the bathroom. How in the world does hair get behind the toilet? And do males ever aim? Just wondering.

It's just after noon and I am still in my jammies. Not really jammies but the clothes I wear on weekends before my shower. Jean shorts and a hoodie. Don't ask - it's just what I like to wear. Wait a minute - never mind what I'm wearing. Check out the pillows!

The theme is summer. I know the styles of the patterns are WAY off. But...

After texting MJ and asking if she had picture text - I sent her the following pic.

Friday Findings and a Dandy Dreams Update

Today was the grand opening for our local Jo-Ann's. They moved across town and today was the DAY. The store had that new car smell. Wide open aisles, new products, and lots of new items. I walked through the silk flowers, foam children's toys, and the cake decorating - not the least bit interested BUT I know where to go if I ever need them. The cross stitch aisle has become TWO (yes, TWO) aisles! Much bigger selection of cloth, mostly Aida, but there was linen. All DMC flosses were available. But, there didn't seem to be many patterns or kits. I tried to remember what floss I needed for Birds of a Feather - I got 3011 and 3013. I needed 3031! So close... Now I need to go there again - hmm, what would Freud call that?

I got fabric. Seems you would like to see Cherries and Watermelon as pillows. Well, I had to get fabric that 'matched'.

This was a bright white fabric and I immediately
stuck it in some coffee to tone it down.

It was a watermelon print and I fell in love.
Nuff said.

Mary Jane has asked that I not show my Dandy Dreams until she is done too. She hasn't had much butt time in her stitching chair this week. But, she has made progress! She would like to call Dandy a completion this weekend.

Couldn't find any dandelion fabric.
These are the choices I got. Leaning towards the dark one in back.

I haven't had my tush in the stitchy chair since Wednesday afternoon. Shame on me. This is where I left off on BOAF.

It's the weekend again. Sunday is Logan's donation collection day and raffle for the local animal shelters. He had collection containers out for the last 2 weeks. He got over $70! No, it's not much. But, it's more than before the containers. Hoping for a large raffle and lots of drop-off food. He's already had several people stop around the house and leave items. It's amazing - the generosity of good people.

And Today's Lesson...

Boys and Girls is pre-planning. Have you ever done this?

See that 'little' problem? Way too much border at the top and not nearly enough at the bottom. Oops! My solution is to sew some muslin on the bottom and frame in close. This is the borders of Birds of a Feather by Homespun Elegance.

Mary Jane and I have discussed our finishes on Dandy Dreams. I'm going to look for some dandelion fabric this week. If I can find it - I'll get enough for us both. And we'll make pillows. But, the truth is -- Dandy will most likely be framed. I thought I pillow might look great in a summer basket. But...

I got lucky at Wal-Mart the other day. Got this frame for $5! And found others for 96 cents. Where is the cents sign on this computer? Is this cents sign a thing of the past? Hmm.. Oh wait, anyway, here's what I threw together.

Quiet proud of the picture I took. Read about lighting and such in the latest Nordic Needle Newsletter Email. Wish all of my photos came out as well. lol

Napping sounds like the choice of activity for the day. Gotta love vacations - no rules! ha

Dandy Dreams, Stash, and a Gift

Things are nearing the end for Dandy Dreams. It's going to be sad to see the project completed. Mary Jane told me she was glad I was waiting on her to finish. I wanted to watch us work towards the same goal at our own pace. I've enjoyed throwing some smalls in with Dandy. Makes Dandy take a little longer. Having seen others work on this project - it seems we all want it to linger. There must be something that strikes a nerve with us all.

Here's Miss Mary Jane's Dandy as of last night ~ (she ironed the wrinkles out but complained it was dark and rainy - she thinks her pic is not the greatest - I see no problem)

I took my picture in the daylight sitting on my stitching chair - now which picture was taken in the dark? lol

Made it to Cleveland to my CNS (closest needle store) there was a giggle in the peanut gallery that I called a Cleveland store my LNS. ;0)

I got some stash but no floss. Lee sent me a skein of silk floss from Hand-dyedFibers.com. I wanted to see their selection and start a new collection. This floss is awesome in every way!

So, I got some linen ~

And called it good. The bottom patten is called Tiny Garden Scissor Fob - I believe it is by Shepard's Bush. I bought it to make and RAK. But now I'm thinking there will be two made. This is too cute not to make one for myself.

When I got home there was a package awaiting me. MJ sent me a birthday gift. Oh my goodness - oh my goodness - oh my goodness she knows me too well!!!

Look B-I-R-D-S - Black birds, blue birds, and red birds!!! And to think I was going to go stitch on something else - hahaha - this is getting kitted tonight!

In case you missed it I'm 43 tomorrow. I'm officially middle aged. As long as 43 doesn't hurt worse than 42 - I'm good.

My Rose Garden

Just thought I would show the Rose Garden I made for myself. The backing fabric is the same as the Rose Garden I did as a RAK.

But, after making this pillow it made me wonder. Should I make Cherries and Watermelon into pillows or go ahead and frame them as a duo?

Update on Dandy Dreams

I told you Mary Jane was doing the puff balls. I thought she meant the ones on the border - and I was wrong. She did the ones in the o's. MJ is as happy as a clam - 2 colors complete and not sure where's she's going next. ;0)

Not me - I'm all over the place. I haven't finished one color let alone two. I have letters to go, puff balls to do, but the border is fini!

Today I'm working on the leaves. And maybe the 4 stitch clusters. Well, see how it goes. lol

Dandy Dreams SAL and two finishes!

I should have put what day today is in our SAL but I have no idea! Maybe Day 9? I think we are in the home stretch now!

Mary Jane is about to finish her lettering and start the yellow puff balls tonight. She's not getting a lot of stitch time this week as her daughter is in town. Priorities and all! ;0) (Hi - Jen) But lets see where she left off last night -

And me - well, I wanted to get the left border finished. I did what I had to to get to the bottom of the lettering.

Knowing me - the bottom 'grass' and right border will be finished before I touch the lettering again!

And the two finishes? You can guess the one - Little House took next to no time to complete.

Not walking and waiting for this hip to stop hurting is making many more hours of stitching! It's feeling much better today - two excedrin and no activity works! ;0)

Day 5 - Dandy Dreams SAL and other stitchy things

I would say Mary Jane and I must have kicked it up a gear and really got some stitches in these last few days. MJ found a few extra moments to stitch on Friday and it shows!

I must say Mary Jane is using the called for linen and it looks fab. My LNS was out and the replacement looks nice in person but washed out in the pics. She also said that Chime is wonderful to stitch on.

I might not have set records on Dandy but I did get a few more stitches in.

I finished Rose Garden Saturday and now I need to get the sewing machine a humming. Then I can show you the pillow and backing fabric.

Started another small Saturday and had hoped to show it to you finished too. But...

I'm going to frame this little one and place it in front of my "Here Comes the Sun and Full Moon Arising" projects. Even though they are from different designers - I thought they would be a cute set.

The walking has hit a block. My hip is to the point I am going to call a doctor and see what help is available. When I recently had some x-rays done it was found that part of the ball of my femur is missing. I always related the lower back pain to well, my back. It's not - it's the hip and after walking 400 steps I start limping. This is not working at ALL! My progress is slipping. But, I keep telling myself anything is better than nothing and 'no pain no gain' isn't always true.

The start of another week is around the corner. May it go quickly and safely for all!

Must say I loved Julie's comment about my walking - "if you need to exercise to be healthy, then you should! Just look at it this way. You'll make up the stitching time you lost because you'll live longer!!" I will be chanting this as I near 6000 steps!

Day 3 - Dandy Dreams SAL

I could have had so much more stitching done yesterday. Life interfered! Has anyone figured out a way to rev the metabolism and still sit and stitch? This walking thing is really cutting into stitching time!

Mary Jane is really cooking today. She got tons of lettering done. Would you like to see her progress?

My progress was exactly what I predicted - two full strands of floss and stopped. lol

We're starting to come together where you can tell we are doing the same project. after this weekend - it shouldn't be an issue.

We've already discussed how we plan to finish these. Mary Jane is thinking a flatfold. I had thought of using the antique frame but found it to be a bit large for Dandy. DH might be making another frame this summer.

Oh, I also stitched a bit on Rose Garden.

Maybe if the stitching gods are shining brightly on me - a finish this weekend. I think it would make number 18.

It's the weekend and somebody's anniversary! Happy 39th Anniversary to you my friend - hope dinner is delicious tonight!

I must say we both had progress yesterday stitching, but our lives did interfere! lol But, progress was made. Mary Jane has a busy weekend planned and won't be able to send any pics until Saturday. So, this will be the last update post until probably Sunday.

One more day until the weekend! This week has flown and I am so glad. One more week to go until vacation. I'm so glad somebody thought of vacations!

Day 1 - Dandy Dreams SAL

Mary Jane and I would like to thank everyone for their comments and encouragement on our little SAL! We've decided to email each other a picture of the day's progress and then I will post these pictures the next day.

Today is the reason I am so enjoying sharing this SAL with you. Today's post shows the difference in us all. Mary Jane and I did about the same amount of stitching yesterday but our results are c-o-m-p-l-e-t-e-l-y different!

After I got this picture Brandon says, "Why do we always do this and never a goofy picture?" So, we took this one.

btw - Kilee was the new grad. Logan's the baby and it's his turn next year.

Rose Garden...

I thought I would show a picture of my progress as of last night. The boy went out and I stayed up until he arrived home safely. I know - I'm old fashioned! lol But, this did mean 3+ hours of stitching.

As you can see - I changed the year from 1942 to 2011. I'm weird that way. I like my things to show the year I stitched them. The cranberry I'm using has tons of variegation and I'm loving it.

When I took this picture I forgot to show the fabric on the back. When I finish mine - they will be backed by the same fabric. The trim though is from the stash of antique stuff I got a couple of weeks ago. This one was stitched using Antique Rose by GAST. btw - it went to Rose K (no blog). Notice her initials are RAK. Just too cool!

The weather you have sent to me the last two days has been perfect.

The temperature has been 70 (21C) with a light wind and few clouds.

Well, do you think it will work? I couldn't picture a more beautiful day. I hope this sticks around a few more days. I have a graduation party this Sunday and I would prefer this to hot and stitcky. Or worse - rain!

I sent two RAK's off this week. One is floating to Canada and the other towards the east coast of the US. I still owe stitching to the one. Things just didn't happen as quickly as I had hoped.

On the stitching front - I put away One Nation to concentrate on an upcoming SAL. I am working on Rose Garden. Hold on a sec and I'll go get a picture.

I changed the floss from Jakey's Brown to Cranberry. I love dark red roses and it seems to fit.

My boss is back from vacation next week - shoot. I had hoped he would decide to retire a year early. Since he has been gone my b/p has gone from 160/90 to 120/70 each morning. Maybe things will be better now that he's had a chance to relax a bit.

What do you name a duck?

About a week ago we had inherited a duck. Don't know where 'she' came from but she's seems to be ours now. I've named her Quack. I mean what else do you name a duck? Daffy? Daisy? Donald?

Does anyone know what type of duck this is or anything about ducks? She seems to be happy cruising the yard and eating bug larvae. I'm thrilled with that!

Miss Alivia came over last week. She's a big girl now. She just got two bottom teeth and is vertical in a walker. Her favorite thing is backwards.

And because there is nothing cuter than baby feet!

Although I did ask DH if he was her father...see those crossed tootsies? Only his family does that -- maybe my BIL does too.

Happy Memorial Day to all. To those who have served our country - Thank-you! Because of your sacrifice I can be free.
