Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder...

Boy I hope so! Because I haven't posted in over 10 days. Did you miss me? Probably not -- there are too many talented people in bloggerville that have much more exciting lives than little old moi.

But, I do come to show my latest finish -

Wanted!
by Lizzie Kate
unknown scrap of linen
DMC Floss
I thought this was my 4th Santa of the series complete - ha, it's #5! Here they are together -

As I had them laying out on the table DH asked how I was going to finish them. I told him flat ornaments. He thought they would be huge and would make good pillows. I don't want 12 Santa pillows though. So, I ask you - how would you finish them? I had wanted them to go on a railing or the tree. Hmm...

Went to Cleveland yesterday and visited the Ewe. Sadly, they didn't have the frames I hoped they would have. Came home with one. :( In an effort to make sure the trip was not a waste of fuel, I also snagged 3 more Christmas related L*K patterns, the newest Silver Creek - Love is Forever, and some linen. Shoot, I didn't even spend $50. So, of course, I rushed home and made an order out to Nordic Needle! And even then I got just a couple of things. What is this world coming to when I stay within my budget on stitchy stash??

The basement cleaning continues. I have managed to wade through all my Christmas ornaments and such. I have two sets of shelves that are 10' long and have two shelves each plus the floor beneath - 60' of storage - ALL CHRISTMAS. Although, one floor section is the tree. So, 50' of Christmas decorations. Let me just say this - I thought I would be getting rid of more and instead I boxed it properly and ended up with more room taken up. Shoot. I have managed to get to the other side of the basement where the pool table lives. There is a 15' section of cleaning to go. Maybe I'll get down there today and finish this madness.

I've been thinking (going to warn you to put the coffee down) and I need an answer. We have extremely cold weather coming in this week - our first Arctic blast of the winter. Serious see your breath when you go outside weather. And it made me wonder - if you fart in this type of cold air - can you see the poof of steam? What if you really had gas and thought, "Oh, I can fart out here in the parking lot" and let one go - would everyone see the poof of steam? Can you imagine your 'I'm better than you' boss making a poof of steam while coming into the work place? I'd never be able to take them seriously again.

Well folks, I think I'll leave you pondering that little nugget of weirdness for the day.

Have a great week and stay warm!
Denise

Love all your little santa's. Still jealous that you east coast people have basements to store all your extras. I have to say you did better than I do when I shop or order on line. When visiting my son in North Dakota I went to Nordic Needles.
Seeing that I live in California I have no idea if a fart shows up in the cold.

Love your LK Santa series. I've collected the charts...none stitched yet. Hop over to the SNTF blog to see if any of the 'finishers'over there have any suggestions.

I believe a nude, cold weather fart would steam (like puppy poop), but the clothing probably muffles the evidence! LoL

Lol!! I will have to propose your question to my three boys ~ when the cold arrives here this week, I am sure they will be more than happy to test your theory for you!!!
Lovely Santa finishes - maybe you can do a mix of ornaments and pillows?
So sad to be able to stay within your budget ~ save the surplus, Nashville market is at the beginning if March!

Idea for your Santas. Let's see if I can explain myself correctly.

Sew strips of a Christmas material around each one . . could be the same, could be different for each Santa.

Make sure, when the strips are added, that each SANTA/STRIPS piece are the same height/width.

Sew the "blocks" into one rectangular piece. Use this rectangle, off all the Santas framed in Christmas material, as the front of a long pillow. The pillow could go along the back of a sofa, on top of the cushions against the back, along the floor in front of the sofa, or along the floor . . maybe as a "draft dodger" in front of a door.

Now, I don't know if you can see the steam from a fart in the cold BUT, I know my brother, who is four years older than me, and his buddies would light farts in college . . guess they really are made from gas. LOLOL

LOL well you have me in "stitches". The artic blast is due here this afternoon (In fact the wind is beginning to pick up now). Since my daughter and I both have the intestinal bug I am sure that we will have plenty of chances to check out the cold weather fart situation!
Stay warm

I live in the Cleveland area, in a West Side suburb. I'm wondering where The Ewe is? I've never heard of it but love the idea of a local needlework shop! Can you point me in the right direction, please?!

Oh, you are too funny! Now you have all of blogdom thinking about farts (or trafs, as my stepmother spelled them backwards). You do have volunteers to test your theory; their answers should be interesting!

I wasn't coming up with any great ideas for your Santas until I read Paula's thought. If you didn't want a long pillow, you could space then in a more even rectangle and make a wall hanging. It would be fun to see them all together like that. My only other thought was to go ahead and make pillows and put them in a basket or wooden bowl on the table, as other bloggers have displayed collections this past year. Have fun deciding!

Weird, but like the best post, it made me laugh, keep warm xxx

I made the mistake of not putting my coffee down when warned. I almost ended up with a laptop full of coffee. Since I live in Georgia I am no longer able to see if steam arises. Lovely stitching by the way. A variation on Paula's suggestion would be to piece them together as she said but instead make them as a banner that could be hung anywhere you like.

Love your finish

ROFLOL on your question. I'll have to ask my kids about that. I'm sure that they've experimented - just like trying to light one!

Love your Santas. I think that you would make those into ornaments or cute flat pillows to showcase in a basket. I know that a lot of people do that. I can see them being flat finishes and hanging from garland on a railing though.

Wonderful stitching.

ROFL, clothing definitely stops the steaming , I've walked behind my DH in the cold ,lol. Strangely though ,the smell still filters out. LOL

PS , how about making a type of bunting with your Santas ?

Bearing in mind it is quite cold here, well for us anyway, I am going to be looking at people's bottoms to see if I can see anything lol. LOVE your santas. I think pillows or flat ornaments would be lovely.

Your Santa's are great.

OMG, you are so funny Denise, Yes, I agree with Catherine, definitley a question for the boys to answer, lol. I'm sure my son would like to particpate inthis research study.
Love the finishes, pillows are cute but they take up room, humm, they look big for ornaments, what do you think about cubes? They look great though!

Maggee said...

Oh man--I was going to suggest cubes, but Dawn just beat me to it! Or a banner... which reminds me I must post pictures of my two winter ones... Forgot to do that! Looking forward to reports on the poofs of steam! Ha!

Are you sure you're not a 10 year old boy? That's the sort of thing my son thinks about on the walk to school!

Your Santas are great, the banner idea is a good one.
