Look at Who Else is Stitching!

The hubster! (Can you tell he's thrilled to have his picture taken?)

He's showing you his progress on Irises by Van Gogh (Mystic Stitch). Use your imagination - it's upside down for the picture.

This is what it will look like when completed. It's huge - 10 5/8' x 32 1/2"!!

He's not a speedy stitcher but he is meticulous! Rarely have I heard him complain about having a stitch in the wrong place. If he has frogged anything - I can't remember it.

His grump about this picture though - confetti stitching. He can't get a good rhythm going. I tell him that is normal and we all feel the same way.

This isn't his first piece either - This is - made for my grandmother.

It is circa 1989-90. The spots are coffee stains. He doesn't want to dye the whole piece but doesn't want it framed with the spots. We have tried to wash the spots out but they seem permanent. It's weird - the piece did not show the spots when we framed it - they appeared later.

His other finish -

This would be from about 2000. He has scads of antique Santas he wants to do. I believe they are Leisure Arts Santas - Santas with polar bears, owls, and horses.

There is also a pattern half done - Mallard ducks in flight also Leisure Arts. I showed it to him last night and he wants me to kit it up for him. I think he's going to do a rotation between the two!

What I need is a larger stitching room - room for us both! I always feel like I am abandoning him in the living room to go stitch. Someday!

Maybe, I will feature Courtney's stitching for a post. She is a lot like her dad! Meticulous! She wants the piece to be perfect and will frog to make it that way! I try to tell her that no one will notice the mistake. She has been working on a 5"x7" since (hold on, she graduated in '09 and she started it in 7th grade...) 2003. She is down to the backstitching and one small area. I think I will happy dance as much as she does at its finish!

She is also working on this!

Lots of ambition! I'll let you know when it's done.

Well, that's about all folks! I am trying not to post until I have some finished finishes to show. My progress hasn't been .... what I planned. ;0) Oh well!

Denise

Wow that's impressive the work of both your DH and daughter. My Kev won't pick anything up, which is a shame, you should show your work, we do love to see a WIP. Hope you are having a good weekend xxxx

Oh please . . please . . please . . . post what you have done so we can see the progress.ders,

When I 1st started teaching Social Studies, Indiana 6th graders were learning Cultures of the World. When we got to the Middle East and Islam, we learned that the Persians would ALWAYS put a mistake in every carpet they made. They believed that only Allah could make a perfect thing, so they must honor him with their imperfect piece.

So, I stitch, crochet and sew in the tradition of the Persian rug makers . . .I consider each and every mistake an homage to God . . . if he wanted my work to be perfect, he would make it perfect. Seems like he likes my little "pattern hiccups."

Now, go take some pix of what you have finished and post them. . . .your followers want to see them :0}

My hubby stitched some years ago - I think that has a lot to do with the fact that my boys have put needle to thread. Perhaps one day, hubby will pick it up again!

I don't know why more men don't stitch. I think that it would calm a lot of them down. Be the perfect thing to relax with at the end of the day. But could you imagine the stash? If my husband would treat supplies like tools, we'd be in deep trouble! :o)

Holy cow! That's impressive Denise! I can't believe most of your family stitches :o) I'd never get DH to do it. He wouldn't sit still long enough to put a few stitches in. LOL!

Your DH does lovely work as well. I guess it runs in the family ;o)

How wonderful that your family shares a hobby! I can't even imagine my husband cross stitching, but he does sew on buttons and his hockey referee patches and he has even tried replacing a zipper on a jacket (which I had to do over LOL).

How wonderful that DH stitches too, I have tried to talk mine to having a go but with no luck. Love the violin piece.

Wow, I am so impressed at both the fact that your DH & daughter stitch and also at their work. Lovely! My DH taught me to thread my needles--I think that's as far as I'll get him to go with stitching. ;)
